A regional enterprise plan for the southwest aimed at supporting growth and job creation in Cork and Kerry was announced this morning.

Speaking at the Ludgate Hub in Skibbereen, Business, Enterprise & Innovation Minister Heather Humphreys said the plan was about driving enterprise initiatives from the ground-up.

The plan aims to develop the region's enterprise hubs, develop tourism and business clustering opportunities, support growth in the region's marine and maritime sector and ensure access to a skills and talent pool.

Minister Humphreys said the plan sets up a number of key strategic areas where local stakeholders can work together to create sustainable businesses and jobs in the region.

Separately, Minister Humphreys announced details of 11 retailers in Skibbereen who have been awarded funding under the Government's €1.25m online retail scheme to help expand their customer base selling online.

Details of the recipients were announced at the CH Marine's store in the town. The marine supply company is one of the recipients under the scheme.

Administered by Enterprise Ireland, retailers can access funding ranging from €10,000 to €25,000 to develop their online sales sites.
