Revolutionary population health AI platform identifies major opportunities to improve Irish health system Health System Intelligence Limited (HSi), a specialist healthcare consultancy using the ‘Insight™’ AI Business Intelligence platform, has identified the scale of excessive healthcare spending in the Republic of Ireland. Insight™ modelling identifies maximum budgets required to be at €8.5B (employing c.72,000 employees), compared to a current total Government budget of €22.5B (c.160,000 employees).  Adjusted to include the fact that Private Health Insurance premiums are paid by 47% of the population equalling €3.2B, (or €1,322 per person), the true budget requirement reduces to €4,726B.  The full report includes detailed integrated and operationalised research datapoints and highlights and details major opportunities for the Irish Government to significantly improve the health system, reduce costs to the taxpayer and remove waiting lists.  Additional Government agencies and Quangos are not included in the analysis. Professor Lindsay Sales of the HSi Advisory Board commented:  “The AI platform Insight™ tells us what an integrated health system needs by population health demand rather than conventional historical precedent.  In this research we have been really surprised by the scale of excess spending coupled with low productivity highlighted.  When we also looked at the quantum of patients on outpatient and inpatient waiting lists over 6 months, this confirms the need for major reform, particularly considering future demographic risk to exacerbate the current obvious structural imbalance.” Mr. Gary Burden, CFO of HSi adds:  “Ireland is the least value for money health system we have researched.  Nearly half the population are paying twice for healthcare, be that by tax and private health insurance, or direct self-pay.  Countries such as Bahrain, Saudi Arabia are all in the process of conducting major health system transformation – including the development of universal health insurance - and they have nowhere near the levels of excess spending per capita, supernumerary workforce levels, or 30% of the beneficiary population waiting more than 6 months for an Outpatient appointment!  Interestingly, the ‘Insight™’ platform shows higher capitation rates than currently paid to private health insurers by several hundred Euros, so we know further research by our refinement process will further reduce the total health spend needed if the systems were more efficient.  We can see the Irish Government can make immediate savings in hospital and primary spending of at least €2.5B per annum over the next 2 years if accompanied by a coherent strategic implementation plan.” For the report - please contact us via https://lnkd.in/e-rgweMe

A recent article that discusses a 2024 report on a #digitalhealth framework for Ireland (Digital for Care: A Digital Health Framework for Ireland 2024-2030, published in May 2024), notes that although electronic health records (#EHRs) and integrated care systems were identified in the report as core priorities, there are outstanding questions about the country's ability to deliver on these goals. This is the perfect time to introduce SPRYT to the Irish public. We will shift the view of medical administrators from gatekeepers to facilitators of care. IPPOSI (the Irish Platform for Patients’ Organisations, Science and Industry) should consider how companies like Spryt can make healthcare better for everyone. If we can do it with the NHS in the UK, then we should be allowed do it for the HSE and the Irish people too. Exciting News! 📢 Last week, the Ministry of Health published the 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲: 𝗔 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰-𝟮𝟬𝟯𝟬. This framework sets out a roadmap to digitally transform health services in Ireland and improve access for patients. The release of the Digital for Care: Digital Health Framework for Ireland was Pulse+IT’s top story for the 2024 year in digital health. 📉 The Closure of the NDRC: A Step Back for Irish Startups? It’s deeply concerning to hear that the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) is set to close next year. For years, the NDRC has been a cornerstone of Ireland’s startup ecosystem, providing early-stage startups with critical funding, mentorship, and resources to innovate and grow. At a time when global competition for tech investment is fiercer than ever, this decision risks undermining Ireland’s reputation as a hub for innovation. International investors need confidence that Ireland supports its startups and fosters a strong pipeline of innovation. This move feels particularly short-sighted given the potential threats to Ireland’s economy, such as the possibility of tariffs on Irish exports under a Trump presidency. Now more than ever, Ireland should be reinforcing its commitment to entrepreneurship and innovation, not pulling back. Ireland's National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) is tasked with managing healthcare wait times and enhancing patient access to treatment. Faced with a challenge of consolidating vast, fragmented healthcare data, the NTPF needed a more effective way to provide visibility into patient queues, facilitate better decision-making, and improve accountability across the healthcare sector. To address these issues, NTPF partnered with Spanish Point Technologies and Microsoft to develop the Patient Access Management System (PAMS) using Power Platform. Since the launch in 2019, the number of patients managed through PAMS has grown from 30,000 to over 160,000 - with a significant reduction in patient waiting times. Looking forward, NTPF aims to expand this data solution across more healthcare facilities in Ireland, further strengthening the country's healthcare infrastructure. Our full report - Calculating Population Health Demand and Capacity in the Republic of Ireland using Insight™ AI Advanced Business Intelligence   - is now available on the HSi website. https://lnkd.in/egBcPZZF The Republic of Ireland Government funds the Health Service Executive (HSE) with €22.5B per annum.  This funding theoretically covers every Irish citizen for public health provision: population total is assumed at 5,149m.  The government-funded healthcare capitation rate is therefore c.€4,855 or $5,297.  Compared to other healthcare system rates, this is high (Dubai: $1,270, Bahrain $1,800, UK c. $3,841 – all of whom have plans to reduce costs and improve efficiency). Did you know the Organ Donation Bill introduced a ‘soft opt-out’ system in Ireland? Under this law, everyone is presumed to consent to organ donation unless they officially opt out. However, families will still have the final say, even if no opt-out is registered. The promised central opt-out register is not yet operational, despite commitments from the Minister for Health having enacted it in February 2024. This delay raises concerns about transparency and public awareness. Organ donation saves lives, but respecting individual choices is just as vital.
