The Oscar nominations have been announced in the US, with Irish co-production The Favourite tying for the most nominations with 10 - including one for cinematographer Robbie Ryan - and the Irish short films Late Afternoon and Detainment also among the nominees.

The Favourite, which was co-produced by Dublin company Element Pictures, has tied with Mexican drama Roma for the most nominations - 10.

Among The Favourite's nominations are Best Picture, Director (Yorgos Lanthimos), Actress (Olivia Colman) and Supporting Actress (Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz), with Irish cinematographer Robbie Ryan also shortlisted for his work on the black comedy.

Kilkenny's Cartoon Saloon is celebrating its nomination in the Best Animated Short Category with Late Afternoon, while Irish filmmaker Vincent Lambe is among the nominees for Best Live Action Short for his controversial film Detainment, which is based on the police transcripts from the James Bulger case.

Joining The Favourite on the Best Picture shortlist are: BlacKkKlansman, Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, Roma, A Star is Born and Vice.

Roma and The Favourite lead the nominations with 10 apiece

The nominees for Best Actress are: Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Glenn Close (The Wife), Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Lady Gaga (A Star Is Born) and Melissa McCarthy (Can You Ever Forgive Me?).
