Meet the 30 mighty Irish firms attending Mobile World Congress 2017

The best of the Irish mobile technology community will be on display at Mobile World Congress 2017.

The number of Irish firms attending Mobile World Congress (MWC) has reached a new high of 30, up from 26 last year.

MWC is the biggest shindig for telecoms tech companies in the world and more than 100,000 executives from across the industry will gather to get a perspective on the latest trends, technologies and issues.

Major themes this year include internet of things (IoT), AR, VR, artificial intelligence and, ultimately, billing and how operators can compete with over-the-top (OTT) platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.

30 Irish companies will be among the thousands of companies exhibiting from all over the world.

Enterprise Ireland’s stand in Hall 7 (7F70) will feature 14 of these companies, including Xtremepush, Vistatec, Software Radio Systems, MDS Amiba, MAdme, Inhance Technology, Iricent, iMobMedia, HeyStaks, Equiendo, Druid Software, Cubic Telecom, Benetel and Aspire Technology.

With technologies ranging from IoT to 4G LTE radio cells, apps and a lot more, here are the 31 Irish firms exhibiting at MWC 2017.

A4G

A4G is a global online advertising network specialising in mobile browser and in-app advertising. A4G serves more than 4.5bn impressions and reaches more than 350m unique visitors per month. Clients include Blizzard, EA, Sony, Ubisoft and Warner Bros.

Accuris Networks

Accuris Networks is a leader in Wi-Fi roaming, interworking and service-policy enablement. Its patented WISPr 1-plus connection protocol enables GSM-based authentication and secure Wi-Fi connectivity. The Accuris Connect service speeds up integration with mobile networks by supporting pre-paid service plans and existing billing systems.

AdaptiveMobile

AdaptiveMobile is a leader in mobile network security protecting more than 1.5 bn subscribers worldwide. AdaptiveMobile was founded in 2004 and boasts some of the world’s largest mobile operators as customers, and leading security and telecom equipment vendors as partners.

Alpha Wireless

Alpha Wireless designs and manufactures high-performance base station antennas for all applications and standards. The company will be exhibiting its range of small cell and trisector antennas at Mobile World Congress.

Anam

Anam is the fastest-growing independent SMS messaging revenue expert in the world, filtering billions of messages in more than 60 countries. The company’s offering has generated incremental revenues in excess of $2m per annum for every 1m subscribers.

Apps Club

Apps Club is the official offering and partner for the Android apps subscription services of many of the top mobile carriers and smartphone OEMs in the world. Customers include Samsung, Telefónica, Vivo, Telcel, Claro and América Móvil.

Asavie

The Asavie PassBridge platform delivers on-demand connectivity services to manage and secure connectivity across diverse networks, at scale. It is a key element in the industrial internet of things (IIoT). In partnership with more than 20 leading mobile operators including AT&T, Telefónica, Three and Vodafone, and leading providers such as Dell and AWS, Asavie enables more than 10,000 end-user enterprises, large and small, to scale their smart, connected projects.

Aspire Technology

Aspire Technology enables mobile network operators to deliver advanced services within the available network capacity. It works with some of the world’s largest equipment vendors, such as Cisco, Ericsson and The Now Factory/IBM, as well as global mobile network operators including Vodafone, Digicel and Three. Its flagship nSpire mobile app and cloud-based platform is deployed in 36 operator networks globally.

Benetel

Benetel has developed small, portable 4G LTE radio cells that can be carried in individual emergency vehicles, providing critical communications where they’re needed, when they’re needed. In one of the recent, devastating earthquakes in Italy, emergency first responders set up portable cells to create a cell bubble, enabling emergency workers to access live video streaming of the incident from a fireman’s helmet, inside collapsed buildings.

Brite:Bill

Brite:Bill, which was recently acquired by Amdocs, changes the traditional billing dynamic between customers and providers. The platform provides businesses with intelligent insights and dashboards so that customer churn is reduced and there are less costly bill-related calls.

CommProve

CommProve is already a recognised leading manufacturer of network monitoring solutions and is delivering the promise of big data by offering a set of off-the-shelf telecom business assurance applications. This helps to steer OPEX and CAPEX investment decisions, impacting the operators’ bottom line.

Cubic Telecom

Cubic Telecom offers global solutions for leading companies, providing IoT, machine-to-machine (M2M) and mobile device technology all over the world. Its partners and customers include some of the world’s leading Fortune 100 tablet and notebook manufacturers, retailers, and M2M and automotive companies, such as Audi, Lenovo, HP, Rakuten and Woolworths. Last year, Audi and chip giant Qualcomm made an €18m investment in Cubic Telecom.

Daon

A leader in biometric authentication, Daon has pioneered methods for securely and conveniently combining biometric and identity capabilities in multiple channels, with large-scale deployments and millions of users worldwide. Customers include USAA, MasterCard, and many more.

Ding

It is Ding’s mission to enable the transfer of credit among the world’s diaspora. Ding, originally known as Ezetop, employs more than 200 people in Dublin and is connected to more than 360 mobile operators in 130-plus countries. More than 70 of these are based in Arab nations. Last year, Ding acquired French company Transfert Credit.

Druid Software

Druid Software’s cutting-edge Raemis system provides all the functionality of a large, public cellular network, but can be hosted on an industry-standard server and deployed rapidly in enterprise environments. Its technology played a crucial factor in the development and roll-out of the in-flight 3G service, which is operated by Panasonic firm AeroMobile, and is being installed on Air Berlin’s entire A330-200 fleet.

Equiendo

Equiendo’s EquiTraf solution enables mobile operators to optimise network revenue generation opportunities, improve efficiency and grow capacity.

Companies such as Telefónica, Digicel, Vodafone, Three, BT, NetShare, Eir and Manx Telecom rely on Equiendo’s cloud-based solutions to deliver results.

Exclusivi

Exclusivi’s CRM and analytics dashboard offers unprecedented insights to hoteliers. Its mobile and TV apps, Wi-Fi portal and marketing automation systems enable the companies to act on these insights and drive conversions at scale.

HeyStaks

HeyStaks helps clients to make sense of users’ browsing patterns in real time. The Dublin company’s clients include mobile operators such as Digicel, Vodafone and Three.

iMobMedia

iMobMedia’s geolocation technology helps mobile network operators and publishers to connect with customers at the right time, in the right place and with the right offer. Through SMS and MMS, this communication results in a five-fold increase of redemption rates in branded offers. Audi, Heineken and Ikea are just three of the many global brands that have used iMobMedia’s solutions.

Inhance Technology

Inhance Technology helps blue-chip mobile carriers, retailers and insurers to increase profits, drive new business and retain more customers. Inhance Technology’s clients include Best Buy, Dixons Carphone Warehouse, Orange and insurance giant AIG.

Iricent

Iricent’s SDN solution, APNOS, enables carriers to create a dynamic, scalable network that gives the controller a complete overview, allowing them to direct, optimise or customise traffic across the network.

MAdme

MAdme’s mobile engagement software helps mobile carrier clients and brands to achieve higher engagement levels with customers using relevant rich, interactive media as they use their devices, thus ensuring a more personal experience.

MDS Amiba

A designer of cloud-based communications software for SMEs, MDS Amiba is a white-label provider of VoIP cloud communications with Magnet in Ireland, and also partners with resellers in Holland and the US. More than 760,000 SMEs across Europe already use PBX technology on smartphone solutions, developed by Clonshaugh-based MDS Amiba, to stay in touch.

OpenBack

With offices in Dublin, London and Silicon Valley, OpenBack is an on-device messaging engine that operates locally within third-party apps, and remembers activities undertaken by users for targeted notifications.

Launched in 2015 by David Shackleton and Christian Ryder, the company took the €25,000 grand prize and the ESB Spark of Genius Award at the first Lisbon Web Summit in November last year.

Openet

Openet provides the systems and expertise to assist communication service providers to grow and become digital service providers.This is enabled through its real-time monetisation, control and big data preparation systems. Openet is a member of the ETSI Industry Specification Group for NFV. At the vanguard of network virtualisation, it has successfully deployed solutions with many world-leading tier-one operators.

Software Radio Systems

Software Radio Systems is smashing the barriers to entry into the mobile equipment world. It uses partnerships – such as its links with the European Space Agency – to help clients create new products for use in a range of areas, from Wi-Fi on commercial aircraft, to drones, and 4G handsets and networks. A recent project involved the provision of 4G LTE ‘terrestrial’ Wi-Fi for planes and also for trains, having tested its 4G LTE software on the high-speed Madrid-Barcelona railway line.

Tango Telecom

Tango Telecom is a leading global provider of data monetisation solutions for evolving mobile networks. Its solutions are deployed at the core of some of the world’s most demanding networks, including América Móvil, Telenor Group, Telefónica O2, Indosat and the Axiata Group. It currently supports more than 140 live systems, serving 700m subscribers in 43 countries.

Taoglas

Taoglas is an Enniscorthy-based tech company specialising in IIoT and radio frequency devices for M2M platforms. Last year, the company invested $2m in an IoT lab in San Diego to support wireless device manufacturers.

Taoglas helps to design and develop radio frequency for some of the world’s biggest consumer and B2B brands.

Formed 12 years ago, the company is led by Dermot O’Shea and Ronan Quinlan, employing 37 people in Wexford and more than 130 worldwide.

Vistatec

Dublin-based Vistatec uses deep content technology and machine-learning software to transcreate content, pulling both public data (such as BBC online news) and private user-generated content (online travel portal) together to provide the customer with relevant context, language and cultural relevance. Global companies such as Sony and Intel rely on Vistatec to make sure their message gets across to customers and clients all over the world.

Xtremepush

Dublin-based start-up Xtremepush helps large enterprises around the world to boost revenue by analysing and better understanding their mobile and web customers, using its multi-channel analytics and engagement marketing platform. Global and domestic clients include BetBright, NBAD, TBC Bank, Alphacomm, Anexio, Funstage, and IRFU.
