About the Workshop 

The purpose of this workshop is to equip Family Businesses with the knowledge, skills and financial know-how for successful growth. 

Provider

Kieran Mc Carthy is founding partner at Hughes-Blake, a firm of chartered accountants holding expertise in small and family business in Ireland now merged with Baker-Tilly. Kieran is responsible for client service, strategy and talent led teams. A certified accountant, fellow of Institution of Taxation and former accountant with KPMG, Kieran recently wrote and published his first book entitled, “Family Business- A Survival Guide.” He holds a deep knowledge of family businesses, restructuring, planning and business growth and will deliver this 1 day workshop and follow-up sessions with the support of his field expert colleagues from Hughes Blake.   

                                                                                              

Objectives 

This workshop is designed specifically to allow you to learn about and understand:

 

  • Business Planning versus Family Business Planning - the differences and key issues on a family context including family business values
  • The value of financial planning and restructuring for a family business
  • Governance in their own family business context.

  • SMEs embarking on a growth plan to expand or export
  • Family businesses or others with sensitive dynamics

 

Workshop Cost                                                                                                            
 
Enterprise Ireland supports the overall costs. Companies pay €300, which allows companies to bring up to 3 participants to the workshop which we strongly encourage.

 

 

Workshop Outcomes

As a result of attending this workshop you will have:

  • A greater ability to develop a realistic business plan reflecting the realities of the family business context, and the needs of different family members
  • The ability to utilise and maximise effectiveness of a Shareholders Agreement
  • Greater insight into financial management in the context of a family business
  • Decision making frameworks for Board member/shareholders and management
  • Understand required governance structures for family business

 

Format

 

  1. 1.   1 Day Workshop. This is an engaging workshop that combines teaching with analysis of real and relevant cases plus discussion elements and it will include issues relating to your own company.  You will receive relevant material to take away as well as a post workshop follow-up session to focus on next step implementation of issues covered in the workshop.  There will be several participants attending the workshop and an opportunity to raise issues relevant to your own situation.

 

  1. 2.   Post Workshop follow-up implementation session. A post workshop session will be offered to each company to focus on net step implementation of issues covered in the course.
