Earlier this week, Tom and Simon Browne of Greenhills farm, Killeagh, Co Cork, fitted their 1,000 dairy cows with the MooMonitor+, a health and fertility monitoring system designed by Dairymaster.

Greenhills farm is Ireland’s largest dairy farm where the Brownes operate from a 486ha (1,200 acres) platform, of which 166ha is leased. Much of the leased land is located within two miles of the home farm and is used for silage or zero-grazing, if needed.

The Brownes have been continually expanding their operation since Tom took over the farm from his parents in 1975, milking 200 cows at the time. In 2000, a 60-unit Dairymaster rotary milking parlour was installed on the farm, the first of its kind in Ireland.

According to Dairymaster chief executive Edmond Harty, the Browne family has always been ahead of the game when it comes to doing things more efficiently and profitably.

“This decision by Tom and Simon Browne to install the Dairymaster MooMonitor+ on their farm makes real sense. The Brownes run not only one of the biggest, but one of the most respected, dairy farm operations in Ireland. Dairymaster has a long and proud association with the Browne family and Greenhills farm,” added Harty.
