Dublin-based technology company Transpoco, a provider of services used by car, van and truck fleet operators to help reduce their fuel and maintenance costs, is expanding and plans to double its workforce to 40 this year.

The company said the new hires follow its investment in a new internet-based service aimed at expanding its offer to businesses across Europe.

Transpoco's product is based on integrating data from GPS software and the fuel cards used by fleet operators.

The expansion at the Swords-based company follows a two year major research and development programme supported by Enterprise Ireland.

"Fleet managers are not fully exploiting GPS tracking technology, because they are too busy,” commented Andrew Fleury, the company's chief executive.

Mr Fleury said that while fleet managers use basic features of GPS, they never really get to the stage of accessing real business intelligence and do not have time to analyse data from different suppliers, such as fuel and vehicle maintenance etc.

But he said that the company's "SynX" product automates this analysis and pinpoints key actions that need to be taken.
