Showcase provides buyers with a chance to stock up on unique, design-led products in fashion, knitwear, crafts, gifts and home accessories. Now in its 37th year, Showcase has evolved into a boutique tradeshow which this year attracted 630 international buyers from 20 countries. With 435 of Ireland’s leading designers, manufacturers and craftspeople taking part, exhibitor numbers reached their highest level in four years. Sales orders of up to €20 million are expected as a result of the show.
According to Stephen Hughes, Consumer Retail Manager – Enterprise Ireland:
“For many Irish consumer products and craft companies, Showcase is a valuable route to new international markets. A pivotal element is the number and high calibre of international buyers it attracts. Enterprise Ireland’s network of overseas offices was instrumental in encouraging important new international buyers to visit Showcase 2013. Significantly, we also welcomed back many key international buyers who return regularly to see what is new and innovative in Irish craft and craftsmanship and, most importantly, place export orders”.
It is estimated that the craft sector contributes almost *€500 million to the Irish economy and employs almost 6000 people throughout the country.
Showcase, which took place in the RDS from 20-24 January, is organised on behalf of the Crafts Council of Ireland, with significant support provided by Enterprise Ireland in promoting the show internationally.
