Government eyes 10,000 new finance jobs

Net employment is expected to rise by 10,000 in Ireland's international financial services sector by 2020 under a new strategy being launched by the Government today.

The planned increase equates to a near 30pc rise in the current number of jobs in the sector in firms that are supported by the IDA and Enterprise Ireland.

"This year's action plan places a strong focus on Brexit," said Financial Services Minister Eoghan Murphy.

"The strategy's dynamic and evolving structures provide the toolkit to react to domestic and international challenges and opportunities arising over the next 12 months and beyond."

The Government is hoping to attract companies and jobs from the UK as it leaves the European Union, with approaches already made by dozens of firms interested in relocating to Ireland.
