Focus on Iran: Business Abhors a Vacuum

As Iran emerges into the post-sanctions era heralded by an agreement on its nuclear programme, much of Tehran is focused on loosening the country’s ties to the dogmas of revolution, and ending the cultural and economic isolation of the last 35 years. Key to this process will be business and trade – and European companies, long frozen out of the Iranian market, know it.
Europe saw a huge drop in trade with Iran between 2012 and 2014 is eager to make up for lost time. Last week, Enterprise Ireland ran its first trade visit to Tehran since sanctions were lifted. “We know that the next ten years are going to be radically different, never mind the next 100. The question everybody is trying to answer is what are the next steps and what are the right steps. We’re there to provide that exploratory service for companies” said Clare Roche, who led the Enterprise Ireland delegation.
